CINNAMON QUILLS
Cinnamon quills also known as cinnamon sticks are tightly rolled thin underneath layers of the Ceylon cinnamon bark. Carefully peeled off cut branches are rolled by hand by Cinnamon processors into a metre-long quills and then cut into shorter sticks. Each Cinnamon stick is hand-rolled by highly skilled processors. Quills are graded based on the diameter of the quill, the level of foxing, its colour, density and blemishes.
CINNAMON GRADES
ALBA – is the highest grade of Ceylon Cinnamon and also the most expensive grade. Alba grade is prepared using the finest and slightly matured, thinner inner bark of Ceylon Cinnamon plant. The processed quills are approximately 6 mm – 7 mm in diameter and golden-brown in colour. This grade is highly fragrant, sweet and has a pleasant aroma.
C 5 – SPECIAL – is also a high grade of Ceylon Cinnamon. This grade consists of two mixed grades namely C5 grade and special grade with a fine finish. C5 – Special grade is prepared using the finest and slightly matured inner bark of Ceylon Cinnamon trees. This grade is golden-brown in colour. Highly fragrant, sweet and has a pleasant aroma.
C5 – Quills of the C5 grade is manufactured using a similar process to that of C5 – Special. Processed C5 grade quills are thicker compared to C5 – Special grade. Price is lower than C5 – Special. C5 is golden-brown in colour and is highly fragrant and sweet. This grade also has a pleasant aroma.
C4 – grade is prepared using adequately matured inner bark of Ceylon Cinnamon trees. C4 grade quills are thicker than C5 grade and the price is lower than the C5 grade. C4 is golden-brown in colour and is highly fragrant, spicy and sweet and has a pleasant aroma.
M4 – grade is prepared using the inner bark of Ceylon Cinnamon trees. This grade has a rough and a crude appearance. Processed quills have a similar diameter to that of C4 but is lower in price. M4 grade is brown in colour and rough in appearance. This grade is also highly fragrant, spicy and has a pleasant aroma.
H1 – grade is manufactured using matured inner bark of Ceylon Cinnamon trees. H1 grade is thicker than C4 grade, and highly fragrant. Golden-brown in colour and has a strong aroma.
H2 – grade is manufactured using fully matured inner bark of Ceylon Cinnamon trees. Quill is thicker than the H1 grade. H2 is highly fragrant and golden-brown in colour. H2 grade is spicy and has a strong aroma.
